A phone call came in and my husband answered the phone. The caller said they were from Bell Aliant and my husband handed the phone over to me. The caller then said Can you hear me? I answered yes, I can can hear you.

I got a call and I'm not sure if it was a real guy or a recording. I picked up the phone and he said, "Hello. Can you hear me? Hold on, let me put on my earbuds so I can hear you." He then hung up and I realized that I just fell for the can you hear me phone scam.

Male voice, "This is xxxxxx, from "consumer survey". Can you hear me OK?"

I laughed and hung up. It was a recording, not a real voice. I tried to call back, got a

"survey completed" or some such and saying to press 9 if I wanted to opt out. I didn't want to push anything, so I hung up.

My phone showed me the number but said Salt Lake City... whose area code is 801.
