I was initially contacted via text message by a woman who claimed they found my resume on Indeed. She claimed she worked for CAP Holdings S.p.A. She claimed that they were searching for a Data Entry Representative and that it was a remote position. I was then connected to a man named Matteo Colle, a hiring manager that supposedly works for the company, whose corporate offices are based in Italy but their support office is located in Delaware, and a branch is supposedly being built in New York, NY. The virtual interview took place entirely on the Telegram app. Once I was "hired", I was sent a USCIS I-9 Form, a W-4 Form, and a Job Offer Letter, all of which I was asked to fill out and send back via email. A few days after that, I was sent a check, to which I was asked to deposit. Upon clearance of the deposit, there was supposed to be a discussion on what vendors I would then make purchased for software as well as device(s) I would need to do the job.

However, my bank marked the check as fraudulent and placed it on hold, and found that the origin of the check matched neither the name of the company nor did it match the address that was on the check itself. Once notified of the situation, the hiring manager then cleared the entire chat history on the Telegram app and has not been heard from since.
