Capital One Mastercard Imposter Reports & Reviews (1)

• Jun 25, 2024

I have received two calls within the last two weeks regarding fraudulent activity on my mastercard. The caller ID shows up as Capital One Mastercard; however, I believe these scammers may have somehow been able to "bug" the telephone number to replicate the legitimate number of Capital One. The man will go onto say there is reason to believe that my card was used fraudulently on a purchase from i.e. ***** or ****** for a total of $4,000 (from previous call on June 11). Today's phone call was for $835. I have entertained the scammers questions and went along with their questions. These are the questions they have asked: Please confirm if you've made this purchase in the amount of.... Have you reported your card lost or stolen? Have you provided anyone else access to your card? Does your card "start with" 5457? That question specifically red flagged the remainder of the conversation from the initial first call. They also tried to say that my card has been now blocked and they were reissuing me a new card. This is where I believe they would try to get my personal information at that point, but I cut them off at that point. Capital One has never called me regarding fraudulent activity. I get security alerts and my card is usually blocked or I get a text message asking if I made a purchase in the amount of.... There are no other security questions asked. No credit card company has every asked if I can confirm the first 4 digits of my card, but the last 4. I have confirmed with Capital One, they will never ask for my full card number over the phone as they obviously have that information already. During this call, I have let them know I will never provide my number or personal information over the phone. I thanked them for the information of the "fraudulent activity" and I will call Capital One directly to ensure I am speaking with the actual representatives of Capital One. They usually end the call without hesitation, but I do expect another call from them again soon. I haven't called them out yet on the fraudulent calls I'm receiving from them but will be notifying them that these calls have been reported. Do not ever provide your personal information. They do have some info, but very little to go anywhere with it. Call Capital One directly to confirm fraudulent activity and I'm positive that you will get the same information as I have, there are no concerns with my card. I'm hoping I have been able to save someone the trouble or loss from such a scam.
