"Is your 2008 Suzuki GSX1300 still for sale and are you firm on the price? Please contact me here [email protected] ." Followed by my Craigslist ad link...
Responded to him with a lot of detail about the bike, then he responded:
"I want to buy the motorcycle and i will be paying in cash. However, I'd really want to take a look at history report before i come to check it out. I'd really appreciate if you can get it from cardetailcheck.com because I'd like to repay you if we cut a deal, and they're a lot cheaper than carfax or something else. If everything comes out clean on the report we will set up a meeting and I am getting the motorcycle."
Did not start with "Hi Bob," or end with "Regards," or "Thanks," etc. I'd also mentioned I was going to put the money towards padding my mortgage, because I'm getting treated for Lymphoma. Most NORMAL people would at least wish me the best, or mention something, etc. Nothing like that, and the email came in at maybe 3:30am, which was odd, but not unreasonable. So things just started to NOT add up. Did some research, and "cardetailcheck" ... is also owned by "getvinspecs," which had been registered longer, under that name, but listed as owned by someone from the "Russian Federation." So "cardetailcheck" seemed to have only been registered for about 30 days. At that point I knew it was a scam, most like to steal my credit card information. And the box that held the www address said it was NOT SECURE. Really insane the scams they're trying to pull off, but any time you're contacted by someone on Craigslist to purchase something you're selling, you SHOULD be wary. Especially as scammers can easily shut down ONE site & copy the basic scam template over to a new one, and a certain percentage of people will simply fall for it...
