The scammers used a fake puppy sale website that seemed legit. They said all the right things. Once they got me to pay the deposit using one of the popular payment apps they went so far as to create a fake bill of sale and email it to me. Then they sent me a link to a fake delivery company that asked for more money to cover the fees of a special airline crate. This is when I questioned the fees and pointed out our contract terms. They said I was getting difficult. I was getting suspicious and reevaluated my communications and looked deeper at my documents, which didn't add up and had some red flags. I pretended I want to buy a second puppy and would that make my delivery fees less, which got a very quick response. They again said all the right things and began to sound legit again, but this time they wanted me to pay in full for both puppies before the would deliver. I said never mind and just deliver the one puppy as agreed in our contract. This is when they said no because I am adding unnecessary stress to the process and no longer seem like a serious buyer, if I wanted the puppy, I'd have to pay the balance before delivery. I reminded them our deal was "X" money total with 1/2 due at order and 1/2 due at the delivery. I gave them the 1/2 for order and will honor the balance at delivery. This is when they started to threaten me to say that I was wasting their time and the dog has other serious buyers so I need to pay in full and dog will ship tomorrow, or they will sell the dog to somebody else and keep my deposit for the stress. It was then that I saw the website listed on a pet scam site and realized I fell for a scam. Luckily for me I used a secure app that is backed by my bank, so their fraud team was able to protect my info and trace the payment and get my money back, which would not be possible if I used the app outside of their secure network. I am very luck this wasn't just a hard lesson and that I actually got my money back, but please note these guys prey on your emotions, they seem like your bestie but hey are working it. A legit pet seller will work with you, answer all your question, and do video calls and in person visits. And remember if it sounds too good to be true it always is, these criminals are getting good at what they do so please be careful and do your research and just try to buy local where you can visit the pet before buying.
