I had applied for a remote job on indeed and later on I received an invitation for an interview and ask me to contact the hiring manager through a platform. The person then ask typical interview questions and went on to telling me I was a great candidate. I end of getting and offer letter and ask me to send all information such as offer letter, W4, and direct deposit info through this chatting platform. They then said they will provide me the funds for the equipment I will use and I was to follow their instructions as a way to [censored] if I follow instructions. When I receive the package for the “funds” check to get my “materials” I receive a letter with again the name of a Mr. John Lewis stating he was the company’s payment department and i was to send an email to [email protected] which then I became suspicious because there was no official company name on the letter along with this check. The company they were using to hire me from was GILEAD. I became suspicious that it all sounded too good to be true, once the “check” was delivered to my address the way the letter was format just didn’t seemed official which gave it away also I ended up researching for this John Lewis and the email ( [email protected]) and found a lot of scam alerts associated with the name and the email. Apparently they were going to send me another check because there was some sort of delay on the first check they send through Fedex and they send a new check by mail, this person that was the “hiring manager” said to not deposit the check that I had receive because the accountant had cancel the funds and to wait for the “new” check because of the delay of the first check which I ended up receiving it later in the day, and had not received anything else from this “hiring manager” using the signal messenger app. Please be aware of fake job postings and do your research.
