I had a similar experience, different name, different scenarios, but all the same scam.
I did not bite, but there is no reason this should be allowed.

After moving for college, I signed up on petsitter.com to find petsitting jobs to make some money. This lady named Cynthia emailed me, talking me she was moving to my area on September 9 and needed someone to pet sit her Australian terrier and run errands. She wanted me to run errands for her before she got here. She sent me a check of 2650 dollars, 500 she said was my pay in advance, which I put in my savings. She asked me to go to a western union and transfer money to a Ana Lia Garcia in Columbia- 1000 dollars. I didnt think it was weird cause she mentioned she traveled for work. So I assumed it was a coworker or something. Later that day she had me transfer 1000 dollars to a Ming Li in China at a money gram at walmart. The next, she wanted me to loan her 450 dollars from my pay to pay one of her Bill's. She wanted me to transfer money to China though. I was dumb enough to believe that. And when money gram didnt accept the transaction, she said oh [censored] and told me to buy 4 100 dollar itunes gift cards which made no sense. I questioned her about and she told me it was the only other way to pay the bill or whatever. I did buy the cards and send her the codes on the back. I questioned her more and she kept insisting she wasn't using me or anything. I told her off and blocked her number after researching some petsitter scam emails. Most of those emails were just almost exactly like her email that she sent me. Now I'm 99 percent sure the check I cashed in was a fraudulent check and I fear I'm going to end up in debt soon. The ana lia Garcia money transfer couldn't be received cause I managed to enter it in wrong. I don't know if she really loves in California but the phone area code is from California
