I posted my car on Craigslist for sale and received a text from (346) 839-0562 for a visit. He introduced himself as Paul and asked for an AP report from vindatalabs.com. I was skeptical, as I could easily get a CarFax report for less than $10 whereas he asked specifically for this one that costs $35. I paid through PayPal and checked the report, it wasn't comprehensive enough as CarFax. He pushed for this report and I haven't heard about AP report earlier. He seemed legit and I thought the report might be comprehensive as he was emphasizing on a comprehensive report!
Requested for a refund on PayPal, fingerscrossed.

This guy texted me from 801-614-7580 as well and is very pushy about me buying this report for him. Told him no multiple times and had to block his number.

I had a listing on KSL Classifieds for a car. I was contacted by this scammer and he wanted me to purchase a “car report” from a website he sent me and then send him the report. I knew this was a scam because I fell for the same thing hours beforehand.

Same situation but this time it was https://vinrecordlookup.com/ but same email. The text came from +1 (469) 374-8877 for a car listing in Maui Hawaii.

I actually fell for it and purchased the report but realized immediately after and got money back through PayPal.

The person maintained a pretty normal convo and even set up time to see the car before mentioning the site, so pretty elaborate. Beware.

What exactly is the scam, because I too purchased a report from a website this guy sent me, but it seemed legit?

Same I knew it was fake when I told him I’ll use my own website his other number is 801-614-7580
