• I am a Porsche car enthusiast and owner of several collectable Porsche cars. One of them is a 1997 Porsche 993 C2S which I purchased 5 years ago from a private seller outside Boston. A fellow enthusiast who knows I own this particular car contacted me 4/19/22 to say he saw my car listed for sale in Pharr, TX by a company called CARHAUS. He knew it was a scam and so did I, so I went to the website and sure enough, there were pictures and text description of my car. The pictures and text were taken word-for-word off a 6+ year old Craig’s List Ad that I was familiar with, and the VIN in the Ad is the VIN of my car. So I called them up, posing as a buyer. Maybe it was a mistake. He proceeds to give me the sales pitch, telling me what good shape it was, how it runs perfectly, etc. etc.. So I said, yeah, I know, that’s my car and it’s sitting in my garage right now in CT. Click. He hangs up. The ad for my car was taken down later in the day, but I wondered if the other 3 Porsche 993’s he had listed were bogus. A VIN search on those cars revealed that yes, those ads were bootlegged off previous listings just like mine. Those ads were still up the next morning, but after I exposed those as being copies of other listings, they took them down too. (I made copies of the bogus ads before they were taken down). The market for these particular cars is red hot right now and there's something of a feeding frenzy going on with people grabbing them up as soon as they get listed, sometimes site-unseen. I’m afraid someone’s going to get seriously ripped off if they aren’t shut down soon. If you need any more info from me or if this complaint, please let me know. Thank you for your help.
