1. Initial Contact: I received a letter from CBC, which claimed I owed a debt. The letter provided my full name and address, making it seem legitimate. It stated that I had until November 11, 2024, to respond to their claims.
2. Phone Call Experience: Upon receiving the letter, I called the number provided. During the call, I spoke to representatives who answered in English with accents suggesting they were located in India. They provided little information regarding the alleged debt and pressured me to make a payment immediately.
3. Tactics Used:
Intimidation: The representatives used aggressive language, implying legal action would be taken if I did not respond promptly.
Personal Information: They already had my name and address, which heightened my concerns about their legitimacy.
Urgency: They emphasized the deadline in their letter to create a sense of urgency, pressuring me to act quickly without verification.
4. Additional Information:
I called the the company US Fertility that apparently sent this bill to collection and they have told me that I do not owe them anything. They sent a copy of the bill reflecting the clear account.
The company's name (CBC) appears generic, and I could not find any verifiable contact information or reviews online to support their legitimacy.
I suspect this is a phishing attempt aimed at collecting personal information or payments from individuals.
5. Action Taken: I am reporting this incident to warn others and to seek guidance on how to proceed. I have also considered contacting local authorities and credit bureaus to ensure my information is secure.
