CBS / Universal Studios- IMPOSTER Reports & Reviews (1)

- Encino, CA, USA

I replied to a craigslist ad for a 'Universal / CBS quarter Talent Signing'. I was asked to send a clip of me singing and then to come by the studio. The studio was a creepy dingy lit place, opposite Jinky's cafe, in fact the scammers gave me the address of Jinky's cafe and told me it was opposite them (I had to google to find out their exact address). There appears to be an entire building of them, running acting scams (by one Johnny Venokur or Johnny V, claiming to work with Melissa Mccarthy and making people pay $*** upfront for his phony acting course, which he offered me and kept hassling me about and thankfully which I didn't say yes to) in the upper level and down below, the music recording scam. When I arrived, I was upset, as it was dingy. They told me that "This is Universal Studios", "this is cbs" (impersonating these companies). A crumpled old white man in his 50s-60s approx with sunglasses on, claiming to go by the name 'J' - he would sign his emails with 'J - CBS' was apparently called James Daniel Hill yet he also went by James Hilton and on the internet, James Callahan (apparently another name he went under for the same sort of scam) was there and told me the producer was with Universal and was impressed. The 'producer' was a black man in his 50s, who I later discovered to be rapper Father MC, legally known as Timothy Brown, who is wanted for all sorts of crimes and lives at 19336 Hatteras St, Tarzana, 91356 CA with the email [email protected] and phone number 310 279 3782. They told me they'd record a track for me for $750 and made it sound like they were completely legit - in your face stuff, they said 'that universal had fired the upstairs person and everybody under them had to go..... as that's how it was in the industry' (which was completely wrong - the other scammer was up there). I said I'd think about. After a few days, he called again and I wanted to know more obviously. He told me the producer was the famous Teddy Riley, who worked with Michael Jackson and to google him and tell my parents that so they'd give me money. Back in the studio, it was VERY DARKLY LIT, VERY DARKLY and they both wore sunglasses, as I didn't go back there and could only go by memory, a quick google search showed photos of someone who could have been the 'producer' (who I later discovered to be Timothy Brown, the rapper), especially as they were old and Riley is in his 50s. I said yes and went in, again the studio was very dingy lit. They gave me a receipt with illegible writing for one song and I paid $*** in cash. I asked 'Riley' about working with Michael and he went all on about it, and how it made him and about working with everyone. I recorded a track and they edited it and it sounded AMAZING, little did I know that they had already used the beats of the track with someone else and probably didn't own copyright for it. There was a black audio engineer by the name of Tru there who was slightly younger than them. It was so good, they convinced me to go and get another $*** out of the bank in cash. Each song took a few minutes literally, no time at all. No other takes. (I'm a good singer, but perhaps they had everyone only take a few takes). 'Riley' told me about his home recording studio and how it was better and cost $*** to use. I told him I didn't have the funds, and he kept pestering me to get them from my parents and told me paying $*** was fine and I could get the rest later. He told me studios moved quickly, so we had to be fast and he'd already told the head of Universal Studios about me and wanted to churn out an album. I agreed and paid him a smaller amount over the weekend with the rest later. He pestered me all the time, demanding I answer the phone and going on about how he was working with Lana Del Rey. He said sexually inappropriate things to me and I've now filed a sexual harassment charge against him. He was truly foul. He ended up getting $*** off me, conning the other guy in the process. I haven't received masters (very important for music, which allow you to perform and OWN the music) for any of the tracks and feel I won't. The backing beats weren't theirs to use anyway and had been used before. He kept talking about how he could see TMZ coming after me and everyone. I am admittedly an an incredible singer. I was new to LA. From Australia. He gave me a 'universal' recording deal to sign which I saw was actually with a company called Famous-fontana Records, owned by a con artist Jeffery Collins (according to Google), then the whole thing unraveled. The internet is rife with reports of scammer Father MC, who didn't pay child support or turn up to his own child's funeral. Hit Factory West, as they also call themselves, is a complete scam house. I got $*** back from Father MC, and have still to receive the other $*** and the $*** from 'J'. Brown didn't give me a receipt for the last tracks, moreover he just took the money and it was all so rushed, I had no idea what was going on. He also 'stole' my hard drive, he had someone coming and because he told me it was important for me to be gone quickly, he was like 'there's no time to get it' even as I asked for it. this deeply disturbed me as I had photos and iPhone back ups on there. These crooks deserve justice. The internet is full of their victims.
