A friend contacted me via Facebook messenger and enthusiastically asked me if I'd heard the good news about the monetary awards from the C.D.B.G. program. They vaguely explained that when she was on line completing the claim information with the agent that she saw my name on an award list. She encouraged me to contact the program to "claim my winnings." A slow communication occurred over two days leading up to a suggestion that I text the Agent directly to and I was given a phone number. I was told Special Agent In Charge James Walter was assigned to the program. He invited me to provide personal information to complete the registration process. My friend was casually interacting with me on Facebook but would not answer when I called their cell phone. When I asked them to call me on the phone they would only reply on messenger. I remained enticed to claim my "winnings" but noticed that my questions were being ignored by both parties.

I contacted my friends sister to confirm the best phone number to reach my messenger friend, we talked on the phone and she confirmed that she was not behind the FB messages. She had been hacked. I ended the communications, looked on line and read about similar scams that end up soliciting advances to process the claims.

Anyone that tries using text messaging to process award notifications is not legitimate. Trust but verify who you are dealing with before giving out any information personal information
