Centerpoint - Imposter Reports & Reviews (10)

Live person called, man with accent asked if I was the homeowner and said that my electricity would be cut off in 45 mins. I told him he was full of [censored]e and he hung up on me.

I answered a phone call from a number registered as Centerpoint Outage. The voice said my power would be shut off in 30-45 minutes. Then gave me the option to speak to a customer service agent. The agent asked why I was calling I said you called me and they hung up.

REcorded call claimed service would be shut off in two hours unless I took action. When i pressed "1" to speak to someone, a man answered and asked my name. When i told him I think the warning was in error, he hung up.

The number was disguised as real centerpoint energy phone number. The automated system said a tech is coming to your house to cut power to your house press 1 to talk to an agent. When I talked to the gentleman, he said I owe 226 and I was scared but he said will take 3 business days to get your money back. Then he said I must paid via zelle. I knew it was a scam. His name is Mike Perez employee number 10121619. He also gave me a toll free number which i knew wasnt the correct number for centerpoint. He said I had to zelle my money right away and I told him I was driving then he said I must send him the money in 20 min. I just said ok and hung up.

I got a phone call from "CENTERPOINT" with an automated message that said "Warning, your service will be shut off in the next 30 minutes if you do not pay this bill." I spoke to a rep and I told him that I still had 8 more days to pay my bill but I will go online and do it now. He told me not to and preceded to direct me to my online banking and pay them through Zelle. When I asked him the amount he said $400. When I told him I could not pay he asked how much I could pay. I then got his call back number and said I would call him back. He then said if we hang up, my service would be disconnected. What a jerk.

Here is the recipient info that he wanted me to send my money to through Zelle:

Name: Dis DEP

Mobile Number: (929) 329-8613

He told me his name was Marcus Martin

Phone #: (281) 816-9108 ext 256

Received call on my cell phone (caller id #713-207-2222) indicating my gas would be turned off in 30 minutes & to press 1 to speak with a representative. Mr. Charles Brooks indicated Centerpoint had a new bill pay system and that the monthly amount that I had sent through bill pay with my bank had not posted to my account for the last 3 months. Told me only way I could pay was through Zelle in the amount of $349.83 or to go to one of their locations. I asked him what happened to the $123 I paid for November, December and January and he indicated a refund check had been issued to me for this. Did not sound legitimate. So called Centerpoint and the automated billing system shows my account is current and has a $5 credit. He also gave me a claim # and indicated they could give me a 30% discount for the next 6 months for all the trouble this had caused. This really stressed me out and I just hope people do not fall for this scam.

The incoming call is the Centerpoint consumer number for reporting power outages. The robocall said your power will be cut off in 30-60 minutes, press 1 to speak to a billing representative. They asked to confirm my address, then when I started asking questions they hung up on me.

I received the call on my cell. The voice said it was CenterPoint Energy, and that I was delinquent in July and August payments and my service would be disconnected in the next 45 minutes. It said to press 1 to speak to a representative. I hung up.
