A popup ad offered a free smartphone in exchange for filling out a questionnaire for a supermarket. I was curious, so I filled out the questionnaire; then cerebraltraining.com website opened. To get the smartphone, I had to give information about myself, so I did. I did not read the small print saying I was thereby committing myself to a $75/month contract for getting brain-training games from the company. The promise of a smartphone was a lie: what was really offered was a cellphone to the one person who used their services most in a month. I was sure I had not contracted with them, and was surprised to find a $75 charge to my credit card. I tried to find their website to cancel, but I mistakenly contacted a company with a name very much like theirs. Their welcome email was placed in my junk-mail folder by my email program.

The promise of a smartphone was a lie: what was really offered was a cellphone to the one person who used their services most in a month. I was sure I had not contracted with them, and was surprised to find a $75 charge to my credit card. I tried to find their website to cancel, but I mistakenly contacted a company with a name very much like theirs. Their welcome email was placed in my junk-mail folder by my email program. When I finally did get into their website, I found out that their 3-day limit for cancelling service with a refund had passed. I sent two emails to them saying I had used none of their services, and did not realize I had contracted with them, and requesting a refund. They replied to neither email.
