Type of a scam Credit Repair/Debt Relief
I received their number as a possible method of loan forgiveness. I called the number and was prompted to see if I was eligible for Student Loan Forgiveness. After giving a bunch of my basic info, I was told we needed to work quickly, but they think they can get me approved for the William D Ford Loan Forgiveness program. And after some consultations with the "processing department" I was approved. They were able to reset my FSA login (making me think its legit) and login into my student loan history. I was told me they could get me into the program and loan forgiveness for only $49/month. And in a year, I would receive a letter from the Dept of Education and need to re-certify, but likely after a year my loan would be forgiven. I just needed to set up my payment plan and E-sign some documents.
After more conversation around the payment schedule and terms, I started asking more questions and the rep "Joe" got more and more anxious and testy. "Joe" was so irritated by my questions he told me, as long as I have been on the phone with you, I could have helped probably 20 other people and if I wanted to go through with it or not. Of course, as a potential customer I wasn't too happy with his tone and told him before I E-sign any documents I want to know what I'm getting into. I asked him what company he worked for and he hesitantly told me Certified Enrollment Center, a doc prep company. I wasnt too thrilled at this but proceeded forward.
"Joe" began to further explain the payment details and they has now changed. The $49/month was actually $199/month for 6 months and then $49 the rest of the program. "Joe" after confirming my billing address and name on my debit card realized he made a mistake it turns out its not $49, its $132/month. He apologized profusely. At this point, I knew something wasnt right and stopped the process there. Joe said he understood and I could call him back tomorrow with a decision. But recommended this is a First Come First Serve business and if I didnt act by tomorrow he'd close out my file. I asked him to email the documents and more about the program and of was told he couldnt because of company policy. He said they work with too many students to be sharing the information on the program.
I dont know if they are legit company, but I can definitely say they are shady and I wouldnt trust them. I did not provide any banking information, but will be monitoring my accounts for any fraudulent activity.
