My husband we looking for a Maltese puppy and searched various websites looking for reputable breeders. Champion had raving testimonials and a beautiful professional website, so we emailed them about a particular puppy and they replied with all detailed information about him plus asked several questions regarding us. I was impressed with that. We decided to go with the purchase and asked what steps to go through. It was about a week later that we finally heard from them and they told us that that they would make all the transportation arrangements after we paid for the puppy. The price was for the Maltese and transportation. We were told to wire the money using Moneygram from Walmart or Western Union . After I did so, I received a text and was to open a link to the pet relocation website to confirm all the details of delivery. When I did that it said that a $1500 refundable ( in two payments of $750) insurance fee had to be wired before the dog can be delivered. At that point I knew it was a scam and refused to pay any more money. I called the so-called breeder and demanded my money back and he said he was waiting to hear from the delivery people to fix this and he would call me back. That was the end of it. I called , emailed and texted with no response from him and no puppy. I am out $710, but caught myself before he got any more form me. This was a very costly lesson and the feeling of violation and embarrassment is awful. I hope that this helps others to be very vigilant before purchasing a pet from online services.
