I've done this before, and the website looked familiar, so I filled out all of my information, submitted credit card info and hit submit. There's a screen that says something like your order's been processed/check for an email confirmation.
Almost immediately after this I realized my mistake in choosing a website that didn't actually belong to USPS, and when I checked my credit card purchases- of course, they charged me $49.95 and I panicked. I just gave these people my address, my credit card information, and my phone number. Who knows what they could do with this information, and they essentially stole $50 from me.
I immediately locked my credit card and scoured the website for contact information which is not available, no phone number, no address. There is a 'Contact Us' page with a web form that I'm sure isn't actually functional. I can't even really dispute this charged because I was DUPED into this voluntary purchase!
When I got home from work I got my laptop out and looked at the actual website on a web browser, EVERYTHING except the page in which you submit your info is written in broken English. This is not visible on the mobile browser that I was using when I submitted my information initially.
The entity that operates this website is unreachable. The website is purposely made to mimic the USPS (on the mobile browser) website in appearance and is charging customers $50 for a service that the USPS charges less than $2 for. There is no mention of this $50 charge on the website.
When I started researching this, I realized this was a Google Ad that the first search result with the criteria listed above. As I am submitting this, when I google the same exact thing I did earlier today, this Ad is no longer visible and has been replaced by the USPS website.
The money can be replaced, but I am furious mostly because I have no idea what these people will do with my information and I am now helpless. Please catalog this so other people don't make the same mistake.
The image attached is proof of purchase from my credit card company. I have other screen shots available if needed.
