- Cincinnati, OH, USA

This company operates a website meant to look like the USPS website for change of address. Upon moving, I went to this website, which I thought was affiliated with the USPS, and filed what I thought was a change of address. I filled in my credit card info, remembering that last time I did this, it cost one dollar or so. I received a confirmation email from [email protected]. At the time, I didn't notice the address; I just scrolled through what looked like a normal confirmation email. It actually listed no charges. Then, a charge for $59.95 appeared on my credit card bill, with the description "Changing-My-US-Address 877-2999675 CA." I immediately called the number. There is a recording that says, "Call may be recorded for quality purposes. A live person will be with you shortly." It never gives any clue what the company is. A woman named Laura answered and said, "Hi, how may I help you tonight." I told her I had received a charge for $59.95 on my credit card bill, and I am assuming it is a scam, and I need the charge taken off right away." She said, "No, ma'am, it's not a scam; we're a premium address change service, and sometimes people mistake our website for the USPS website. But you'll be happy to know that we have a no questions asked cancellation policy, so I'd be happy to issue you a refund. And just in good faith, for the inconvenience this caused you, we'll still process your change of address for you. Do you mind if I put you on hold for a moment?" She put me on hold, then came back and asked for my name and the last four digits of my credit card number so she could process the refund. She did the same speech again about the full refund and still processing the address change for me. She asked if that would rectify things, and I said yes. Then I asked her for her name again, and she hesitated but said, "My name is Laura." She thanked me and apologized again before I hung up. I immediately began researching and found others who report this same scam. I tried to go back and remember which fake website it was, but I can't remember which one. And the site listed in their no-reply email address doesn't exist. It remains to be seen if they will actually take the charges off or not.
