Fake tools shop claiming to be in the UK
I charged the purchase to a Revolut debit card. The charge came through in US Dollars at $37.50 from "Cometinbox Ecommerce".
At this point I immediately became suspicious and I checked the contact details on the cheap-tool-shop.com website. These were: ADDRESS 18 Barbourne Rd Worcester, United Kingdom (UK) WR5M 7PO OPENING HOURS Mon to Fri: 10am - 6pm, Saturday: 8am - 6pm, Sunday: 9am - 5pm These details are clearly false as the postcode is invalid and there is no sign of a shop at the address given in Worcester (although there is a property at 18 Barbourne Rd Worcester, it is not a tool shop). I received an email from dvftrack.com giving me details allowing me to track the progress of the order.
After a week, the items had still not been despatched and it was clear that delaying tactics were being used. Attempts to complain to dvftrack via email received boilerplate replies which did not address the issues I raised. I would not expect a delivery from Worcester to London to take over a week!
The website of cheap-tools-shops.com currently appears to be infected by a virus (although it was not detected on the day I first opened the website). Attempts to contact the vendor via the contact form on the website have met with no response.
Several days after this attempted purchase I received a phone call purporting to be from Revolut.
The caller failed to properly identify himself, and the caller ID was spoofed to make it correspond to the genuine number for Revolut. I have made a separate report to Action Fraud about this incident, but suspect it was related. I have since had a second such call.
I have now successfully actioned a chargeback for this transaction and reported it to Action Fraud in the UK. For safety, the card used for the transaction has been cancelled.
It seems that dvftrack.com is a fake tracking site used to deter consumers from pursuing chargebacks for as long as possible after goods fail to appear.
