I came across "Cherry Home Teacup Yorkies" on Kijiji and paid $500 (1st installment) through Zelle to adopt a miniature Yorkshire Terrier ($650 puppy + $150 shipping) from their website. The owner told us to pay $500 first since we were his first-time buyer, then pay the $300 (2nd installment) after the puppy arrived. Everything seems reasonable and fair.
The owner informed me that the delivery fee for the puppy from the USA to Canada was only $150, and the Cargo company would contact me the next day regarding the delivery information. The next day, I received calls and emails from "Global Cargo and Logistics." The representative asked me to verify all the information and informed me that the puppy was already waiting at the cargo. However, I was told I had to pay a "DEPOSIT" (recommended $1250) through Zelle to rent a special crate to ship the puppy. My husband paid the deposit through Zelle, but we encountered a daily limit of $500. When I contacted the Cargo company, they urged me to pay through other methods. My bank blocked our Zelle account, and I called the owner of Cherry Home to confirm that he should pick up the puppy from the Cargo company first. He told me he could not because the puppy had already been sent to the Cargo.
As the conversation continued, I started to feel that something was wrong. My bank also notified us and blocked our Zelle account, adding to our suspicion. I then called the "Cherry Home" owner to confirm two matters:
1. pick up the puppy from the Cargo company, and
2. did he use this cargo company to ship puppies? His response was "yes." He used the services many times and trusted the company.
However, he kept telling me he could not get the puppy back from the Cargo and that I needed to pay the "deposit" because I promised to adopt the puppy. The more I spoke with the owner, the more convinced I became that both companies were working with the Cargo company to scam people.
Unfortunately, I paid $500 for my lesson because the miniature Yorkshire had NEVER come, and there was NO refund from Cherry Home either.
