The owner of my company was contacted through email by a company called Cincinnati Award Program, email address [email protected], congratulating our local franchise for having been selected 9 years in a row for the Cincinnati Awards in our industry category, saying we qualify for the Cincinnati Business Hall of Fame. Included was a link to purchase an award plaque, ranging from $150-230. The email signature only contained the business name, Cincinnati Award Program, with its address in the fine print, based in Texas, which seemed suspicious. After browsing the website, which looks quite vague, and searching more about this business and award, it seemed this could all be fake. There are similar vanity scam reports in the ScamPulse.com and media, meeting the mark of this exact "award". Included in the link was an "official press release" which seems official, but after seeing similar scam reports, they looked the exact same, with vague congratulations and how our company was selected as a recipient. The owner has not attempted to purchase the award, but to purchase it, you are directed to several award options, and asked to enter shipping details, credit card information, and billing details. It all looks legitimate. These vanity scams target local small business with similar-sounding award names, there is a Greater Cincinnati Business Hall of Fame award, but no Cincinnati Business Hall of Fame. There was no contact information for a person, just a general phone number, email address, and physical address based in Texas, which is very odd. This is a scam to get your money for an award. Though you may actually receive the award, the award does not have any merit -- you simply bought the recognition.
