Received a call from "Deputy Riley Scott" from the "Citations and Warrants Office." He stated that I failed to appear for jury duty 2 weeks ago, and that I needed to go to a federal office or local police department to get the charges cleared. I told him that I didn't have transportation at the moment, and he stated that the charges would go on my record if I didn't find means of transportation within 10 minutes. I had my son call the number back saying he received a call from them earlier, but no one left a message. When the scammer picked up, he said "Citations and Warrants Office, may I have your name?" He gave him a fake first name and mentioned that someone had called him from this number earlier. The scammer asked for his full name, but my son didn't tell him. The scammer said, "Let me get my supervisor." 10 seconds later, the same guy with a more mumbled voice says "Citations and Warrants Office." My son said that he couldn't understand a word he just said and wanted to know who called earlier. The scammer guy switches back to the original voice and rudely says, "Well, you can have a nice day then" right before hanging up on my son. I called back saying that I had found transportation via a friend who was a police officer. The scammer was silent for 5-10 seconds and then hung up. It's obviously some sort of scam where they find someone who isn't smart enough to spot the red flags (vague, rude, not answering detailed questions). On the original call, I never got to the point where he asked for money, but I'm sure they don't get to that point unless they think the scam will probably work. Anyway, my son left him a nice voicemail afterwards full of obscenities. Just wanted to report it in case this [censored] attempts to victimize anyone else.
