Type of a scam Debt Collections
The woman told me I had an outstanding payday loan debt from 2008, that they were working as a mediator for Sagamore loan company, and that they could help settle the matter outside of court for less than the $1500 I supposedly owe. (None of this, of course, is accurate -- I may have taken a payday loan from that company back then, but paid off at the time.)
When I asked for them to mail me any legal or financial documents in regards to this matter, as is required by law for debt collection, they refused, saying that those documents had been emailed to me (they had my actual email address) back in 2009. When I asked for their street address, they refused.
Fifteen minutes later I received a call from 618-857-3198, this time a "Mr. Prior" who said he was with pre-trail processing for "Civil Arbitrators," saying he'd listened to the recording of the call and wanted to work it out. When I asked him to repeat and spell his name and for his company's name, and asked him to send me any loan collection documents, he became abusive and threatening, calling me a thief, saying those documents were already sent (by email in 2009) and how much he'll enjoy seeing me in court, then hung up.
