I keep getting phone calls from “Medicare” asking for me by name, claiming that they want to activate my Part B Benefits and asking if I have the new or old card. I am new to Medicare but I know they don’t call you on the tephone, and much less so on a Sunday morning (and in the middle of a government shutdown).

The calls I have received are clearly from a boiler room type operation and are in Spanish. They are pushy and insistent and when I have told them to stop the calls, they claim I will keep getting calls until I go through the “verification process”. Clearly the objective is to get identity information from me. In the most recent call, when I asked to please stop calling I was switched over to a “supervisor.” I responded in English and the “supervisor” asked if we could switch to Spanish. When I asked why, he said if I preferred to speak in English they would switch me to am English speaking Operator. They call at least twice a week.
