On June 30, we received a call at our Tempe home from a caller where the phone said SKYPECALLER. The man, who sounded like someone from India, said he was from the ScamPulse.com and was investigating past cases of people compromising computer and getting $25,000. He gave me his name and told me to look him up on Google to convince me he was legitimate. He claimed I had been identified as a victim of on-line computer scamming. He said my computer had been used to scam others of money. And that I thereby was a suspect, too. He wanted to know if I had been a victim. I was reluctant to engage him, but old about some foreigner claiming to be from Microsoft a year or so ago calling and getting on our computer for an “update.” I did not lose money, only had to get my computer straightened out by technicians. He insisted he was in Washington, D.C., and was legitimate. As he kept pressing me for details, I grew more suspicious and said I was hanging up. He tried calling back repeatedly in the next three minutes, but we did not answer the phone. The phone number on our screen was *** ***. It said it came from California. We checked it out on line and saw it was a scam. Lots of material on the web for that number as a scam.

The caller then called back twice more and left two messages on the answering machine:

1:46 p.m. "I know you are there. Pick up the phone. Don't be scared. I am here to help you. We are fully in to help you because we know that you are one of the reputed citizens of this case. So we are trying to help you (unintelligible two words). Pick up the phone, OK?”

1:47 p.m.: "If you are not going to pick up the phone, then we are going to have to take legal action against you, so please pick up the phone. It is really very urgent." I have the recordings saved.
