Type of a scam Tech Support
Clear Rate contacted a non profit organization under the guise that they were partnered with CenturyLink to lower rates due to a recent class action lawsuit. Clear Rate's sales pitch is tailored to mislead the consumer to believe that the company is not a separate internet/phone service provider, but rather an extension of CenturyLink. Clear Rate will ask the consumer to confirm their CenturyLink account information under the guise that they are confirming their communication with CenturyLink, but they are instead setting up a new Clear Rate account for the consumer. Clear Rate will then claim that there will be future communication from CenturyLink regarding a modem upgrade, but in reality Clear Rate will try to bill the consumer for a "modem upgrade" through the fraudulently created new account.
