On Jan 26th, 2023 a lumber package was delivered by Parr Lumber and Christopher was supposed to be at the house to make sure order was correct and put where he wanted it. He never showed up.
Monday January 30th, 2023 the job was supposed to start at 9 am. Christopher showed up about 10:30am and started removing some of the broken siding. Christopher said that he needed to leave at noon for lunch and to pick up his helper that was at a class that he takes on Mondays. Christopher and his helper (James a 38 year old violent criminal) arrive back at my home about 1:15 PM. They begin with the demolition of the destroyed walls and work until about 3:30 hen Christopher tells James to pack things up they are leaving.
They returned on Jan 31st, 2023 at about 10:00am and begin the rest of demolition on my home, at about 12 pm Christopher announces that he is going to take back the 2x6s to Parr lumber that he ordered by mistake for my walls to be rebuilt. (My walls are 2x4 Not 2x6) Christopher leaves for about an hour and half and leaves James here to continue tearing the walls apart. I had to leave for a doctors appointment at 12:30pm and when I returned Christopher was still not back at nearly 2:15pm. After Christopher returned about 2:30 pm he brought James some lunch from Arby's and James stopped working to eat. Christopher began cutting away the broken 2x4s with a saws all and I asked him again why he hadn't gotten any OSB to cover the studs, Christopher became irate that I was asking him any questions he told me " I'm not used to my clients asking me anything, I'm the professional here and I know what I am doing! So stop asking me things!" I was very upset by the way he talked to me and I retreated into my house. Christopher and James began framing up the walls on the east side of the house and the south side which was just the rough in for the window. About 4:00 pm they again packed up all their tools and told me that they would be back in the morning at 9:00 am with a trailer to haul all the old wood and garbage away and continue building the walls.
About 4:45 pm Christopher texted me and told me that he had someone coming to pick up the wood and garbage from my front yard. He also told me that I don’t need you out there either he will load it real quick and leave. I told him I hope he doesn’t leave nails and chunks of garbage all over my front yard. Christopher said he would bring a magnet and make sure it was all cleaned up. (Which he didn’t do) and there were nails and chunks of concrete and wood all over my front yard I had to clean up.
February 1st Wednesday
I got up and was ready for their arrival at 9:00 am. Again they arrived about 10:00am with the OSB for sheeting the walls. I asked Christopher when he started putting OSB on the walls, “Don’t you need to get a framing inspection before the walls are sheet ed?” Again Christopher became irate and told me to stop asking him questions!
I went into the house and began disassembling the temporary walls that I had built and installed last summer to support the roof from coming down and also to provide shelter in the winter since I had to return to my house when my hotel through the insurance company ran out. After I finished I went outside to start moving the lumber I removed to my garage.
Christopher and James continued to install the OSB sheets to the outside of the framing without a framing inspection.
When I went around to the east side of the house I noticed that the kitchen wall that had been disturbed when the car hit my house still hadn’t been pushed back in and the wood straitened out, yet they are installing wood on rest of that side. I asked Christopher why it hadn’t been done yet? He immediately became irate and started screaming and swearing at me. “Told me that I didn’t [censored]ing need to worry about it, hes the one with the contractors license Not Me!!
I told him that I am the customer and the one with the check book and I have the right to ask a question when something doesn’t look right. Christopher then became more enraged and screamed at me, and said “I CAN WALK OFF THIS F__ING JOB AND SUE YOU FOR THE REMAINING MONEY WITHOUT FINISHING A DAMN THING!!” I started to cry and turned to go into the back yard. James tried to inter seed and told Christopher “Hey calm down you don’t need to talk to her like that she just asking a question”
I went out into my shop out back and stayed out there after about 20-30 minutes I went back outside and they were gone. It was about 2:45pm.
February 2nd 2023 Thursday
I messaged Christopher at 7:45 am and told him I didn’t know what time they were coming today and could he please recheck the rough in measurements on the window framing before they go any further with the sheeting as they are not the right size. I also told him that the header that he had above the window opening wasn’t going to pass the inspection because it doesn’t meet code. That a header can’t be pieced together like he is trying to do. I also told him that I am sorry if it upsets him that I am watching and asking questions but this is my home and I want it fixed properly and will be safe and pass inspection.
Christopher responded “that he will be here at 9:30 and the window size that he framed is just fine!! He is going to have to wait until the window gets here!! And that’s fine it’s your house but I’m the licensed contractor!! That was hired for the job and the professional.” Christopher then began telling me that I am not going to treat him like some prison rat on the street on a professional licensed business. He started accusing me of having my house on collateral for my son who was in trouble, something he over heard James ask me about, something that happened in 2005.
Christopher then started demanding that I pay him an additional $4000.00 or he was not going to do any more work on my house.
He told me that he was going to have to talk to me when he gets to my house that he is not dealing with this. I told him that I had already given him $32,000.00 as stated in the contract and he wasn’t getting anymore money until he was finished.
Christopher then messaged me that his electrician would be here in 20 minutes. Upon Christopher’s arrival he came in without the electrician. He told me that he was not bring James Tyson back here because of what happened yesterday. That he wasn’t paying James $30.00 an hour to talk to me. I told him the problem wasn’t with James it was with the way he(Christopher) was talking to me and treating me and threatening me that unless I give him more money ($4000.00) he will not finish my house. Our contract states that upon finish of my house I will pay the remaining money owed.
Christopher saw that the electrician was here and went outside to bring him inside. He introduced him as his cousin. No name or business card was given to me and when I asked Christopher told me to keep my mouth shut. I took pictures of both of them as well as pictures on my Ring doorbell as they entered the house. I asked Christopher several times for the Permits and he just told me I didn’t need to see them. While the electrician did his wiring inside my home. Christopher went and picked up James and returned to start putting siding on the east wall exterior. After the electrician guy left the finished putting the siding on the east wall and left. I again asked Christopher for the Permits and about the inspections, he told me it was not my business and he would be taking care of it and I better stay out of it. They packed up their tools and left just after lunch time on Thursday afternoon and have not returned since.
Christopher was supposed to be back on the job on Friday, then he began texting me again that he wasn’t going to come back unless I pay him more Money($4000.00)! I kept telling him I am not paying him another cent until the job is finished and it passes inspection as per the contract.
February 3rd 2023 Friday
I messaged Christopher and told him that the window was in at Lowe’s and I sent him the codes for the Exterior paint colors. Christopher told me he wasn’t going to paint the exterior that it wasn’t his job! I told him yes it was his job it was part of our Contract. Christopher refused to come work on my house Friday.
Over the weekend Christopher continues to try and extort more money out of me $4000.00 or he was not going to come finish my job. He became threatening and telling me that I was delusional and using very foul language towards me. He told me to go pick up my own window and paint and fix my own house.
I was speaking to a friend on the phone Sunday and telling him what was going on, he told me to try and search google to see if this guy (Christopher) was even licensed. I found the L and I website and searching his business name CMI Construction nothing came up. I searched Christopher’s name and it came up. It said that he is a licensed contractor but also listed he was being sued for over $25,000.00. I looked up the name on the L and I report and called the person after finding their phone number online. He told me that I would probably never see Christopher again that he had done the same thing to them and they are also an elderly couple.
February 4th 2023
I called my attorney and he told me that he knew of someone else that had had problems with this contractor and that I needed to go to the L and I and talk to them and see if there were any permits purchased. He said I could sue them and it would probably cost me more money to hire an attorney and do that then I would ever see from Christopher.
Christopher never showed up on Monday either! I waited until about 11:00 am then I called the L and I office to see if I needed to come there? I left the details of the job with a lady named Sharon. She passed the information on the Electrical inspector who name is Jason who called me back to tell me there was NO PERMIT and that they wanted to come out to my house on Tuesday the 7th of February and take pictures, get copies of the contract and copies of my checks along with the pictures of the people that were here and installed electrical work.
After lunch and still no Christopher, I went down to the city building inspectors office. I found out from them that NO BUILDING PERMIT was purchased either. They sent a code enforcement officer out and he took pictures and RED tagged the job until a Permit is issued.
Christopher started texting me again just about bedtime telling me that I had signed a contract with him and it states that I will never be able to hire anyone else to finish his work. I told him that he had breached our contract the first time he started demanding more money before the contract was fulfillled and he continued to demand more money to come back to work on my house. I told him that he never showed up on Friday or Monday and that he was breaching the contract further and I was not giving him anymore money and that I had gone and done some investigating and found out that I am not the first person he has done this too and that I was not going to pay him more money to abuse me further. He proceeded to tell me that I must be out of my F-ing mind and maybe I should read the F-ing contract again that I am F-ing delusional. He then began demanding a shop vacuum back and telling me that I told him not to come back!
My final messages to Christopher were that he was a liar I never told him not to come back to do the work. And that he has my $32,000.00 that he needs to fix my house and do it right with the proper Permits or he owes me my Money back.
I am 63 years old female and I am on Social Security disability, I paid Christopher with the insurance proceeds the insurance gave me to do the work, I don’t have another $32,000.00 to pay another contractor.
Christopher NEVER returned.
