They said I had to pay 681.00 to unlock the phone and “install” new hardware. Basically all you have to do is quickly tap the volume up once, then volume down once, (don’t hold down just one quick tap for both. Then quickly hold down the power button until phone turns off. Very important to do that right. I cleared browser history and reset to factory settings to be safe.
They also tried to get me to verbally approve the payments a couple minutes later on a recorded line. Very specific wording they wanted you to say word for word approving the payments. I added in my own words giving speculations and hung up.
They called back time and time again but I ignored the number. The number they called back with for approval was 805-398-7056 Piru CA.
It was obvious their trick to turn the phone off took care of the hacking otherwise I think it would have continued to block phone again and they wouldn’t keep calling.
I had to pay to get the info to unlock but bank was understanding. I would call the bank first if you can’t turn the phone off giving you the only option of calling the number so they can approve it and deny it after your phone is back.
If you try turning phone off normally the phone number notice won’t let you turn it off. It literally won’t let you use your phone at all.
