Was reading CNN online. Link to a story of interest appeared. Clicked to read. Next screen warned that Apple has locked out the computer, call this number. Scammer, pretending to be working for Apple, took over computer to clear the alleged malware and reset computer. Recommended 3 different security software items at $198.90. Purchased. Next day, scammers called again, said they had made error, and wanted to refund to our bank. Refused to credit to credit card. [The scammer called back relentlessly from multiple "numbers" and "locations" in CA and MI -- W. Covina, Jacumba, Alhambra, and also from Royal Oak, MI.] Hung up and called Credit Card company and bank. Next day, we visited bank to check transactions and increase security, had the Apple computer scrubbed by Apple, and changed all our PWs. Now we're hoping credit card company investigation reveals scam and credits $198.90. Lucky it wasn't worse. Hoping that's the end of it.
