I was supposed to close on a house. The day before, I received an email from the attorney to wire transfer the closing amount. The email looked legitimate - it had all his information and the typical confidentiality and tax disclosures on the email. I even responded and copied my realtor in case there was an issue. A response came and provided me instructions on how to proceed with the wire transfer. I went to the bank and they asked if it was valid. I assured them that the email came directly from the attorney's office and the amount was an amount close to the estimate for closing. We proceeded with the transfer. Later I received another email indicating that the "beneficiary" needed to be changed. Then I knew it was a scam, but that email had gone into my spam folder. I hope that the first was valid. It was not!
