On January 14, 2024, I received a warning on my computer. It had been locked and I could not access anything. This warning came with a number to call. I called it. (now I know that was a huge mistake!). Was told that the only way to unblock it was to pay $899.98 by giving them a snapshot of the check. The check was actually made out to "TechMax IT Solutions". However, the company calls itself, "Global Bytes IP Solutions". The money paid was for a 3-year service. This service included a pop-up reminder to call them once a month on a specific day. If not on that day, as soon as possible after. On the day they are contacted, they are given remote control over my computer. This is after I have provided a user ID and password that are different each month. Everything was looking good according to them until a couple of days ago. Was told that there was a red flag about hackers from 31 other places that had access to my computer and IP address. They claimed that my "home network" was under attack. Their scare tactics were to let me know that I needed an NSA grade firewall. Showed me the retail cost, over 6 thousand dollars. Then proceeded to make me aware that I could get it for ONLY $2,599.00 for a year's worth of monitoring! I told him that I definitely am not paying that! He let me know that I could make installment payments instead. I said "NO!". Before hanging up, he told me that if I was to incur any other worse attacks that they would not be responsible. I then told him that their company should have helped with this and any other problems, because I had already paid them $899.98.
