I tried to access my Amazon Prime account on my personal laptop. When I clicked on the first link, multiple warning messages appeared and temporarily locked my computer. A 1-800 number appeared on my screen for tech support so I called, as my computer said not to shutdown or restart it or I could cause more damage. After about 30 minutes on the phone and being convinced to share my screen with them, they starting asking me to log into my personal banking account to “check my balance” which is when I started to realize it wasn’t right. They kept telling me that I had a specific type of virus on my computer that that would target my financial institution. He then had me Google the type of virus so I could “understand” how much I needed their help I guess.

He had me check my websites that I most commonly use to see if anyone has tried to hack me and it turned out I had hundreds of what I now know as fake attempts at people trying to steal my information. I stopped sharing my screen and hung up on them telling them that if they ever tried to contact me again that I would call the FBI and they never tried to reach out again.
