I received an email (or pop-up?) from "Microsoft" informing me that my computer needed service. When I was hesitant he pointed out that his information was on an "official" Microsoft form and that I had reached out to him. Foolishly, I allowed him to browse my computer remotely and I watched as he "discovered" many viruses infecting my computer - which he would be able to remove for $450. and also provide me with 24/7 tech service for the next 4 years. I paid him with a check which I scanned and then emailed the image. (I cannot find the email in my SENT file however - but there is something that is garbled nonsense.) He provided me with a printed, detailed report of the service he had provided and also left a file of entitled TOOLS on my desktop. He also left his 24/7 number on my desktop.

If this was not bad enough - I allowed him to again access my computer 2 months later, for a different problem, but one that would be a permanent fix. A few days later my computer was dead. I called their 24/7 number for help. A man tried for one hour to get my computer to power on. Finally, he said he would have to have their senior tech call me. When I FINALLY confided in my children they of course were HORRIFIED at what I had done. I contacted a trusted I.T. person to work on my computer, but he was not able to get it to power on. He copied my files to a flash drive and removed the hard drive. I then trashed the 6-year-old, infected computer.
