I got cold called out of the blue from a company called "Activation Department", asking if they'd like to "extend" the warranty on my vehicle. When I asked them some questions (like, "Are you a government department or a private company", or "Where are you located?"), they stalled before admitting that they were a warranty company in "Orange County, California". When I asked to speak with a supervisor, the supervisor came on with a totally different company name ("Continuous Car Care"), and said they were located out of San Diego. Naturally, I found it suspicious that a California company with no consistent name would call me from a Northern Virginia phone number about a warranty for a vehicle in North Carolina.
