I believe my initial contact with scammer was through my ad in craiglist. One prospective renter asked me for my full name and address so that they can send a check. The person was very suspicious. The person mentioned that they were out of the country and would be arriving soon. They needed my details so that the person's father can send a check to me.I was not comfortable with the vague information so I decided to discontinue all communication and even block the number they provided at the time. 2 days later, I receive a check in the mail with a note saying that I should text them back at the number 914-893-2834 and provide the check number before cashing the check. I called the number but couldn't talk to a live person. I therefore text asking them why they sent the check? They sent back a message asking for the check #. I just told them that since they didn't reply to my question it is a scam.
