I was approached by the scammer through an email at my University address. The email mentioned an open RA position at the Department of Economics which promised to pay $580 weekly for the research work. It also mentioned working with Professor F M (who is an actual Professor at my University) and asked interested students to directly contact her at the mentioned phone number. I was hired after they asked basic questions about relevant skills and saw my resume. After that, they asked me to find the prices and availability of a laptop, printer and stamp. On the next day, they gave me a paycheck that included my salary along with the compensation amount for these three products. I uploaded the check through the deposit checks option through my Chase app. Thereafter, they asked me to pay for the products. I misunderstood and ordered the stamp and printer from Walmart (the laptop was out of stock). They asked me to cancel the order because they actually wanted me to directly make the payment to them. I refused to pay until I got my money back from Walmart and fortunately, I was able to save a huge amount of money before my Walmart refund. I spoke to my senior and she warned me about it. But, by then, I had already made two payments of $500 each. My bank was able to block one of them since it was still pending. However, I still lost $500 which is a huge amount, particularly for an international student like me. I really want my bank/Zelle to return this amount to me.
