Total money lost $4,000
Type of a scam Fake Check/Money Order
"Total budget is $8000 (videographer gets $4000 and $4000 goes to the talents). An advance payment will be issued prior to the shoot; this covers your $2000 upfront and the talents’ fee payable to their manager while your balance payment ($2000) will be paid before sending the final videos.

The agency providing models and hair stylist is Flaming Models and you will be communicating with Ian Barton regarding possible dates and the talents. You can reach Ian via email at [email protected] or text him on 929-220-9655."
Contracts were sent over and signed off and a check was dispatched to us. Due to Hurricane Michael, the check was late in arriving which gave us only 24 hours before the shoot day for the bank to process it. Now is when things got dicey. The agency demanded a "cash deposit to their account." I pressed them on this and got permission to do a Fed Wire from my bank to theirs which was, surprise of surprises, did not have a corporate name but a personal name attached to it. At the very least, this whole part of the process lacked any professionalism. Anyway, they sent me an invoice with their bank information. The transfer occurred and they were supposed to show up with the talent at between 1PM and 1:30.
From 11 to 1 we set up the shooting venue. 1:30 came and went...no talent. I communicated with them and they indicated that they wanted to reschedule. I tried to press them to make it on the same day because I was willing to wait since the setup was so difficult, but eventually they rescheduled for the end of the week.
Two days later, I received notice that the check from "Cosmopolitan" had bounced. Shame on me. I was in the middle of a week-long shoot and certainly did not do my due diligence on each aspect of this process. Ian Barton and Flaming Models certainly doesn't exist on the web. Josh Archer is a valid name for someone who has done spots for Cosmo but I question that this is indeed the person.
Beware of falling for anything sounding like this.
