I've been applying for a lot of job on glassdoor, and linkedin. Not sure where initial contact started, but I was contacted that Covance liked my resume and I was in consideration for a remote position. I supplied some additional contact information, and was sent an "interview document" where I answered 17 questions. They contacted me a couple days later saying I was accepted for the position, but said that they would need to send me some funds to purchase particular software (I have all the programs used in my industry). I then checked the legit Covance site and their career section had some specific tips to watch out for - email/online online interviews, email structure, etc.

I got offered data entry position for $20 an hour with great benefits. Hours of working would be flexible and the days I wanted. They offered to send money to pay for all materials and software and a $1,000 upfront paycheck for the week. Everything sounded legit until they asked for bank information such as username and password and security question and answer.

Somehow, a woman named Sarah Iyola got onto a facebook group page that is used by York University students and alumni to share volunteer and job opportunities. She posted that DATA ENTRY personnel are needed ASAP for this company, and to message her for more details. She provided me the email [email protected] (RED FLAG RIGHT THERE) and told me I needed to add them on Google Hangouts in order to interview and get more information.
They asked for picture of ID, full name, and address, and a video saying I pledge to do my best and follow instructions of the company, and my supervisor. It was to be a data entry position, that they would be paying me $20 an hour for. They were going to send me a laptop, and funds to purchase software for the computer that I would need in order to do the data entry.
That all sounded good and fine. They told me I had to report online the next day at 9 am. At 844am they started messaging, and told me the computer would be shipping the following day, and I would have everything in 2 days.
In the meantime, they needed my bank info so they could "send me money". Yet they asked for my login and password, and security question and password (RED FLAG RIGHT THERE). I told them that they can E-transfer me the money and I will tell them when I had it. At this point I was very suspicious and started digging around online, and all the little clues came together.
No international company would be using their company name and the year as their email address, nor would they be using a @GMAIL.COM account.
I feel like a COMPLETE [censored] for falling for this, and wasting all that time and energy, and I hope noone else falls for this despicable, disgusting, pathetic, scam.
I DID NOT lose any money, but I very easily could have. As it stands, I am concerned about these individuals knowing my name, address, and having a copy of my drivers license.
