I inherited a home that needed a lot of updating. My husband reached out to a contractor group on Facebook for recommendations. George with Cowboy Construction Service reached out to us for a bid on the job. We met with them and they seemed ok. We explained to him the details of the work needed by walking through the house. He agreed and gave us a quote. I should have known something wasn’t right when he never reached out. When we contacted him, he said he was waiting on materials. After a month, I was done but my husband thought otherwise. I contacted him again and we finally agreed on the cost. He started on the siding. Things were going so well we decided to hire him for the inside. Although the outside had not been painted, we moved forward. He got the inside all torn up but half did every room in the house. He basically finished simple jobs like painting and installing lights that I had purchased. He was to lay laminate flooring but he purchased vinyl sheets and proceeded to stick that directly to the concrete. I voiced my disapproval and that’s pretty much where the job stopped. My entire house is in shambles and we are out of $25,000. I had always heard that contractors can be scammers but now I know. He always needed extra money for materials that never appeared. He even gave me a sob story regarding losing his house and car. I admit I was empathetic but the agreement was that he would repair our fence for the money. Never happened.
