Cox-Imposter Reports & Reviews (1)

- Norfolk, VA, USA

was contacted by a company claiming to be Cox Installation Department to update the software on my cox cable boxes. was forwarded to "Alex Taylor" of the Installation Dpt and he supposedly started the software upgrade. While waiting he said that I was one of only 170 of their customers that qualified for a discount of $80 per month off my cox bill for 2 years starting in May2021, with no changes to my services. Due to the cost of the upgrade ($900 per), I would need to send in a check or money order for a security deposit of $249.37(if mailed today 3-12-2) or $275.37(if mailed after today). Once the "upgrade" was complete, I was then forwarded to "James Brock" at 803-889-9687 to get the mailing address to send the check to. I was told that I would get a zero due bill for the months of June & July, which would give me you security deposit back. The mailing address is Cox PO Box 16033, Philadelphia PA 19114. I WAS NOT asked for any personal information other than my cell number. Upon completing the call, I immediately call Cox at the number listed on my bill. I spoke with a tech support there and they assured me that there were not upgrades being done at this time. He told me to make a police report. I then called Norfolk PD, spoke with the Economic Fraud officer, who then referred me to the www.ftc.gov, due to the fact that the address to send the check to was another state. I filed a complaint with FTC.gov also.
