My son is trying to rent a short term rental in NYC as a medical student. The website had a 2 bedroom listing at *** E. 61st #1 in NYC. My son contacted Rubin Berish by email and filled out a rental application and was approved. It was for a lease from 8/23/24 to 9/23/2024, with a total move in cost of $4245. Rubin sent a letter of acceptance via email. At that point I called Rubin and tried to validate the listing was legit. Through speaking with him (he had a thick accent and was difficult to understand) and texts he assured me it was and I negotiated a half now half on move in payment to reduce the risk. On 6/11/2024 I wired $2123 to a bank account with the name of David Anthony Jones who supposedly was the owner of the property (Rubin being the agent and property mgr). Rubin texted later 6/11/2024 that he would email/text a rental receipt and that is the last we have heard from him. I have attempted to call, text email this fraud with not luck. The only link this business has to being real is that on one of the emails he sent to my son he listed an real estate license #***********. This real estate license is for a real Rubin Berish at ********** ******** *** *************  I have attempted to contact this Rubin Berish (not knowing if he is the fraud or not) but have not hear from him. On Friday 6/14/2024 on contacted my back and am trying to recall the wire. Have not heard if this was successful or not.
