Just went through a similar experience with this company located in the same office, 37-02 Astoria BLVD #202 Queens NY, however instead of going by Created for a Purpose the company was called TopShelf Hospitality.

I was called by a Ms. Davis a week ago asking if I was available to come in for an interview. I was skeptical at first because I had no recollection of applying for a position there (was actively looking for a service job and perhaps recruitment apps pulled my profile for them), but work is work and an interview is pretty low risk. When I arrived I filled out paperwork, waited, etc and eventually spoke with a guy who did not take his sunglasses off the entire time we spoke.

As others have said I interviewed in a side room that was built up to look like a bar. At the time another person was in the space interviewing it seems with another woman. We went over cursory stuff, my experience, bartending knowledge etc. Everything seemed fine for the most part, they claimed they operated in a job placement capacity, but then he sprung on me that there was a $110 training fee as well as a $290 additional testing fee. I was not prepared for that. I wouldn't have thought much about it, but again, I was only requested to come in for an interview and they did not preface these fees in any communications before hand. They expected the payment then, and would only allow payment in cash or via cash app... major red flags. I don't have cash app, I offered to pay with a CC and they declined said cash or cashapp was best and that there was an ATM down the street if I needed. The universe was randomly on my side as I recently lost my wallet and could only pull from an ATM that took Apple Pay.

I returned and said I couldn't afford these fees today but could go to a bank and take care of it another day, they tried many tactics to still get me to put a deposit down that day. "We'll offer a discount, how much do you have on you now, there's a bank 15 minutes away", etc., but something really wasn't sitting right with my intuition.

After reading these reviews I'm grateful I was able to leave unscathed but its unfortunate that this seems to be continuing.

Staff was very professional and my experience went pretty well. I had the opportunity to meet and interview with the owner and the manager so that i can get the idea of the job. The place i was assigned to was safe and respectful, also the work team over there was really nice ! I made what i spent the same night and made so much more through out this time. I continue to work there now. I really recommend this venue

wish it was zero stars instead of one . I was looking for security guard positions at first I thought it was legit , then they try to confuse you, before I went they told me to bring 110$ for a life time of help when needing a job which wasn't bad, then they said 200$ to get the F01 which at first I wasn't sure because they talk about the F02 and Home land security certificate, so I thought ok cool everything together , went home thinking everything was well , called to verify if I'm paying for all classes and certifications or just the F01 , they said only the F01 and once I pass it , I sent them the passing score and theyll help me look for job placement , which sounds cool except that the F01 test is only 25$ not 200$ , I asked them if I can get the certificate and passing score myself and send it to them which was basically the same thing , and they said no because it was a bundle that they never mentioned, I ask what if I do get it , they said they wouldn't help me get a job placement, mind you I payed them to help me get job placement (110$) in the first place that's all the told me before going, so if I would've gone with the F01 certification would they help me or charge me more for the job replacement hmm WORST COMPANY EVER
Worst company ever

Former “Employee” I’d like to remain anonymous. Saw an add on Craigslist for a customer service rep on Craigslist. Got hired. Read from a script that promised people training to obtain certification to serve alcohol and a New York State bartending licence if they make a payment of $110 when they would show up after I made the appointment for them “The Closers” as they call themselves would “Interview” them and have them pay close to $300 to take a fake exam and receive a fake licence and other certifications. They would call many bars/Clubs/Lounges all across the city to look for openings and pretend to be the applicant who just got there “Licence” set up appointments for further interviews with them than call the real applicants and telling them that they have placement for them when really they don’t. This place needs to get shut down immediately. I’ve worked there for 3 weeks saw the sign up sheet and saw that the boss made over $6k in just one day her name is Yanill Ortiz. Again I’m remaining anonymous. Please take action.
