Type of a scam Credit Cards
Transferred me supposedly to my bank's "head of security" to guide me through this process. Instructed me to go to a local store to buy 3 gift cards at $500 each, supposedly to bait the hackers. Said they could "put a hold" on the compromised card just for this purpose, and then cancel it immediately, to protect me from scammers! I did so at one store, though the clerk was surprised. Instructed to photograph both sides of each card and send the pix to a particular phone number, which I also did. Was directed to repeat the process at a second store nearby, but thank goodness, the clerk called the manager, who told me it was a scam.
Can't believe I got sucked in like that. In retrospect, there were lots of inconsistencies and warning bells. They kept rushing me (said it had to be done within 45 minutes or they would "lose the scammers") and distracting me with random new questions about other purchases, but the scammers were very, very smooth, very grateful, very good at what they did.
