I applied for an Administrative Assistant job at Petsmart thru Indeed. It turned out to be a fraudulent posting. Received the following email telling me I was being considered, and that I would need to print and bring a copy of my credit score to the interview. The email gave me a link that took me to a site that looked like Transunion. When I paid for my credit score with my credit card it said I was enrolling in a recurring monthly subscription. The credit reports that pulled up looked entirely legit but with no way to print or download them. Also, no way to delete my card to cancel autopay. I called the toll-free number on the site. It took me to an overseas call center with people that barely spoke English. They hung up on me twice. A few days later I received a second email from them that reeked of scam. I called my bank and cancelled my credit card. Here is their first email:

Dear Applicant,

We received your application for our Administrative Assistant job position, and we feel your background would be a good match with our company. We are in the middle of processing applications and currently have seven other applications along with yours that we are considering, so you can think of yourself on the shortlist to be hired.

Please note that our company requires all potential employees to have a credit score on file for your interview. We ask for this because you will have access to company credit cards for business expenses. We request that each potential employee complete this as this ensures that our future employee is credible, trustworthy, and can be an asset to the company.

Please also note that because of the new economy, we take into consideration that there may be some blemishes on a large portion of applicant scores. Rest assured that your credit scores themselves aren't significant, but our company still requires the report.

You will need to bring a copy with you to your interview. This credit score costs you and is entirely secure from the most trusted credit score website online.

I'm replying to your message concerning the job posted online in which you are interested. However the position you applied for has been taken so I'm offering you another position. This is for the position of a Personal Assistant/Administrative Assistant. I own an art gallery and tend to operate at a high cost of operation and would love to cut down my expenses by employing a Personal Assistant/Administrative Assistant.

I travel a lot and get my hands occupied due to the fact that I work with various companies in and out of the country so it is imperative for me to have a worthy Personal Assistant who would monitor and keep me up to date with my activities. It's a flexible position and can be done from anywhere in the States.

Although, working with me is basically about instructions and following them. There is also a very sensitive issue on trust and accountability which I believe will resolve itself as time goes on. The only fear I may have is that I may need you to perform an assigned task in a timely manner sometimes, so I need someone who can be able to meet up with executing assigned tasks in a timely manner.

The major reason why the service of a Personal Assistant is needed is due to the fact that I'm constantly out of town and presently in Zhejiang, China . I will return to the States in three weeks time so this process will be ongoing till then. Evans Bruscinda, Hiring Manager, ****** ************* Services reached out to me and I was told in order to be eligible for an interview for a Data Entry Clerk position, they needed my credit score and I would have to use a credit score reporting site and bring a copy to the interview.

After some online research, I've found this to be a common practice and a fake ad, so I am reporting it.
