I signed up through a Facebook ad, I believe, with a company saying they were CRG Global looking for mystery shoppers. I received a packet in the mail containing a check for $2,995.34 from a company called Pasture View Angus drawn on Brimfield Bank in Brimfield Illinois. The packet included instructions to wait until the funds were available, then purchase money orders from a post office in the amount of $1,000, $1,000 and $550, and to also purchase 10 books of stamps. This would leave a remainder of $250 which would be my payment. I would then await instructions from them via text as to where to send the money orders and stamps. I was suspicious, but I looked up CRG Global with ScamPulse.com and saw a rating of A+. I also questioned the company about why the check wasn't from them, and they said their business partner in this project was paying for it. While I waited for the check to clear, I received multiple texts from them pressuring me to hurry and complete the task. I went to the bank today (6/13/18) and withdrew the funds, explaining to them what it was for and showing them the letter. I next went to the Bolivar, OH post office to complete the purchases, where I was asked by the postmaster if I was sure this wasn't a scam. I called the bank to see if the company's check had actually cleared on their end, or if I just had the funds available. The check had not cleared. Also, I had deposited it via mobile banking, and when they looked at the check, they said it appeared to be fraudulent. I redeposited all of the funds and am waiting, as I'm sure this check will not be honored. I did not provide the company with any bank account or SS numbers, fortunately. In the meantime, though, I had spent some of the $250 I thought was going to be my salary for completing the job. I am out about $75, plus a $10 fee for the returned check, but it sure could have been worse.
