I am reporting a scam on my elderly father. CYC Paving, Clifford Young, pulled into my Dad's driveway at 6:45PM on Wednesday, September 20, 2023. Mr. Young and grandson had left over asphalt from a previous job and were trying to get rid of it. He asked Dad if he lived alone. My Dad told him he did and that his son and daughter lived close. He said he could pave a section of driveway for $4,000.00. They started the work and the price started going up. The next verbal quote was $6,000.00. They finally said they were finished at 10:30PM after torching the pavement to get the asphalt laid because it was so old. Mr. Young had my Dad sign an Asphalt Maintenance and Repairs Purchasing Order which did not have his company name, address, or phone number on it. It said the material used was a hot mix. If it was a hot mix, why did they have to torch it? Mr. Young had my Dad sign the paper and initial beside the amount due $12,000.00. He told him to write a check for $12,000.00. Feeling intimidated by the crew standing in front of him, Dad wrote the check. The next morning Dad went to the bank and stopped payment on the check because he realized he had been scammed. Mr. Young claims on his business card to be a member of BBB. We would like confirmation of this accreditation. Mr. Young, by several phone calls, has been harassing Dad today asking for payment. On Thursday, September 21, 2023 a report was filed with a detective of the local sheriff's department. At 5:30PM on Thursday, my brother was at Dad's house and a man pulled up the driveway asking if he would like the pavement sealed. My brother told him absolutely not and to leave and not return. We feel this man was associated with Mr. Young. My Dad has a security system with cameras for documentation of this incident.
