Type of a scam Online Purchase

I approached this person in regards to a female french bulldog puppy they had posted as available on their Instagram page. They told me that it was indeed available for purchase and so I decided to purchase the puppy. They gave me a price and we settled on shipping the puppy with a nanny service to my local airport. We agreed that I would send them first $1000 dollars as a secure deposit to their CashApp. They said that they only accept CashApp, Zelle, Apple Pay, and not PayPal business, only family ( I assume so I wouldn't get my money back). After a day they told me that they needed $500 from the amount that I had left to pay for the puppy; these $500 were to ship the puppy. They however told me that they hadn't decided on what company they would use to send the puppy. I agreed since they told me that it was part of the puppy price, it wasn't an extra payment. They never gave me the nanny service/shipping service name or information until the day that the puppy was supposed to be shipped. The day of the shipping, they sent me the shipping information (Vine Global Shipping), however they demanded that I pay them the rest of the money because I had the "tracking information". I refused and told them that I would only pay the money once I had the puppy in my hands because things became sketchy after the "shipping" company contacted me. They contacted me from a google voice number which made me very suspicious of them. They also told me that the flight for the puppy was on hold because the seller told them that I still needed to pay. I told the seller about this and they agreed to my terms and told the company to start the shipping process. About an hour later the shipping company contacted me and told me that I needed to pay $850 for a pet insurance because the puppy papers said I was the owner. In A Few minutes the seller also contacted me about the same thing. I was outraged at this because the seller never told me anything about this. I told the seller that they should have told me about this and that I didn't trust the shipping company anymore. The seller then told me to trust the company because they always worked with them. This made me realize that this was probably a scam because they had told me before that they didn't know what company they would use. I asked why they had not told me about the insurance fee when they sent me the tracking/shipping information in the morning. They said it was their fault and insisted I pay this company $850. I refused and kept telling them that I would not pay another cent until I saw the puppy in real life. I also told them to pay the fee themselves with the money I had already paid them. They said that they didn't have the money anymore because their son was sick and they had problems to take care of. I kept insisting that I would not pay anything more and then they told me that they would pay $450 and I had to pay the other $400. I told them no, that I didn't trust them anymore. The shipping company kept contacting me about it too. Both kept insisting that I pay the money. They were also very unprofessional when writing. Eventually, I told the seller to cancel the sale and put the "puppy" back up for sale because I didn't trust the transaction. The seller kept telling me to trust them for the last time and to keep my trust in them. They also insisted a few times for me to send them teh $400 instead of sending them to the shipping company. The Shipping company also only accepted PayPal under the Family and Friends option, not business. I eventually told them to cancel the sale. I wasn't going to pay anymore until I had the puppy in my hands, but they kept saying no, to pay the $400 because they "paid" the other $450 but also did not want to send me proof of the payment. In conclusion, they spent the $1.5k and can't refund my money and also can't finish the shipping service because I think that there was never a puppy to begin with.
