This was the first red flag. The second was that when I looked up the name of whomever was sending me messages, was actually in Canada, which I am not. Also, the phone numbers on the employee contract did not match any of the actual Ryder business phone numbers.
I did call the phone numbers provided 855.211.5558, and left a message as it prompted. I also responded to the email letting them know I had done so and asking for further assistance. I received an email the following Monday letting me know to call the 855 number again, so I did, again leaving a voicemail. About an hour later I got a call from the Ontario number I provided. The person on the other end sounded very distant and his answers to my concerns only caused more concern. I let him know that I had never been asked to provide personal and financial information via email but he said it was necessary to get to the next step of getting a supervisor and then setting up a date for office set up in my home. I did continue to stress my concern for sending personal information and stated I had tried to contact Ryder's corporate number as well. He responded by asking me to kindly only correspond through his email and not anyone else.
The conversation did not sit well with me so I did contact Ryder's corporate department and was told what I had been dreading the whole time, it was a scam that they had been made aware of and that there was no Remote Data Entry position available. The representative did say that they have an employee by the name I was given, and he is in Canada, but this is not the individual I got the email from. She stated that this gentleman as well as a female employee had been reported in these scams. I was told that it was a scam they knew of happening in Canada, and it seems it's starting to spread to the US and they had never had a report of a phone number so I gave it to them. The women I spoke to explained that their hiring process is much like most others and they would NEVER request personal information as the person trying to scam me had. This was very upsetting to say the least, but I am grateful that I didn't let my excitment for a job get the best of me and cause me to send my personal information.
