Type of a scam Fake Check/Money Order

I posted blue denim cowboy boots for sale for $140 with $7.49 shipping on a application called Offer Up where you can sell things and or buy them. Someone contacted me named D Gardiner on Offer Up saying they were interested in buying the boots and saying he will send me a check with tracking number. I agreed, waited and got a check today 02/18/2020 through Fed Ex. When I opened the envelope all there was inside was a check for $2250.95. It made no sense to me I texted D Gardiner (917) 936-0617 who also had been texting me by regular text through phone. He told me that his client had mistakenly send the incorrect amount to me and to just take the $147.59 from the boots and keep an extra $50 = $197.49 off of the whole check of $2250.95. I was to then after depositing and check clearing to send him the remaining $2050.95 and the boots he had purchased. It made no sense to me. I think its a scam. Check number is 7470. the middle numbers is checking account number: 042200910. I also noticed that the check said it was from Indiana but the fed ex envelope had a different address of origin id:ABRA BLACK GRECH 515 Commerce St Aberdeen SD 57401 United States US. Also the guy had said he was from NY and that he lived in New york. The fed ex tracking that I checked online to see where it came from said it came from Lithia Springs, GA. None of this made any sense its why I am reporting it. Please be careful people of scammers and or money launders.

I received a check that says its from Green Meadows Shopping Center LLC 4865 N. Graham Rd Whiteland, IN 46184. The date on the check says 02/14/2020 and its made out to me in the amount of $2,250.95. from First Financial Bank.
