David Pierce Reports & Reviews (1)

My husband and I were searching for an affordable new home, and found what appeared to be a perfect fit on craigslist. We found a single family home, 3 bedrooms, in a nice enough area, which was an upgrade from our small one bedroom apartment, for $1400/month. A much needed upgrade in fact, as we are expecting our first child. I contacted the person who called himself David Pierce on the ad, via text, asking for more information on how to apply and see the home. I sent $100 for a background check fee via cash app (he had requested using zelle, but I couldn't get that app to work well with my credit union account.) After submitting that, he let us know our background checks came back clear and we could move forward. We filled out a detailed application. We sent a deposit to take the property off the market, $1200. I asked to meet in person but he said tenants were at the property until 8/20, so we would be able to see the space after that. We planned on meeting at the property on 8/24 at 4pm. When we arrived, no one was there. The windows still had curtains, the yard was not mowed. We waited until 5:15, as I texted, called and emailed him to no avail. Finally around 5:30pm he responded to my email saying how sorry he was and that he had a family emergency and was not able to contact us. He promised to meet us the next day, 8/25 at 5:15pm. We arrived at that time, and again, no one was there. The property looked exactly the same. Again I called, texted, emailed. This time, no responses whatsoever. This is when we realized that what seemed to be too good to be true, turned out to be just that. We had also sent a pet deposit of $200 and part of September's rent ($500) for repairs that were supposedly going to take place before we moved in. I was wary at first, but he sent me a copy of his business card, as well as the lease which had his name and address listed. He sent receipts for payments and said everything would be refunded if things didn't work out. He reassured me when I was cautious, convincing me that all of this was routine. All told we sent him $2000. Now, I have emailed and texted letting him know we want the full amount of our payments refunded and we have received no response. On the Cash app, I requested a payment from the person who we paid (the name was Anthony Gibson, who David Pierce said was the "financial manager") and it was declined. I can't believe how stupid I feel, I can't believe someone would take advantage of people who are struggling. I am disgusted, and now my family is desperately trying to find somewhere to move to in less than a week, and with decreased funds, as we have to move out of our current residence. My advice to others is to trust your gut, as I should have, and don't send money to any one you don't know.
